Who Owns Marvel Now
Being one of the leading media animation corporations worldwide, Disney Studios did everything to pursue its goals.
Although they already have 20th Century Fox and Pixar under their team of animators, Walt Disney announced in August 2009 the deal to acquire Marvel Entertainment.
The acquisition was headed by the former Disney CEO Bob Iger, who worked under the then CEO Michael Eisner.
Since Iger became well versed in the animation field when Disney bought Pixar, he also came up with the acquisition of the Marvel Cinematic Universe franchise.
Iger said that adding the brand to the studio is a major presence that will create bigger profits for the corporation.

Spiderman was not part of the package deal when Disney bought Marvel Entertainment.
In 1999, Sony owned the film rights to Spiderman, but when Disney bought the merchandising rights, the control over how he was portrayed and the character in the film remained in Sony.

In 2006, shortly after Iger assumed CEO duties, he completed the first of many aggressive outside acquisition moves to bolster Disney’s coffers by acquiring Pixar for $7.4 billion. Walt Disney’s in-house feature animation division was struggling through a string of costly misfires at the turn of the century. Pixar immediately elevated the Mouse House to the top spot in family friendly blockbuster animation.
Since falling under the Disney umbrella, Pixar has released 16 theatrical films for a combined worldwide gross of more than $11 billion. We’d attempt to calculate how much revenue Pixar has generated for Disney in merchandising in that span, but we don’t want to miss next year’s Olympics.

Boasting a similar aesthetic to Scott Pilgrim vs. the World and Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse, the first episode of the series features many more visual flourishes than we’re used to seeing in the MCU. Kamala’s thoughts appear as colorful animated sketches and text messages seamlessly integrate into the background of numerous scenes. —W.S.

Marvel Studios’ “Shang-Chi and The Legend of The Ten Rings” stars Simu Liu as Shang-Chi, who must confront the past he thought he left behind when he is drawn into the web of the mysterious Ten Rings organization. The film also stars Tony Leung as Wenwu, Awkwafina as Shang-Chi’s friend Katy and Michelle Yeoh as Jiang Nan, as well as Fala Chen, Meng’er Zhang, Florian Munteanu and Ronny Chieng.
The film was directed by Destin Daniel Cretton from a screenplay written by David Callaham, Cretton and Andrew Lanham. Kevin Feige and Jonathan Schwartz produced the film. Louis D’Esposito, Victoria Alonso, and Charles Newirth were also executive producers.

Many of the older Marvel films not currently streaming anywhere should also, in theory, be on Disney+. Almost all of the Star Wars movies will be there, but Disney promises that all eight episodes will be on the platform by the end of the first year.
One of the biggest selling points for a lot of potential consumers is Disney+ being the home of the MCU. Beginning with Captain Marvel, Disney+ will be the only place to stream every new MCU film (other than buying it directly on services like iTunes, Amazon, or Vudu). That includes Avengers: Endgame but not Spider-Man: Far From Home since Sony Pictures controls distribution on all Spider-Man films.
For the time being, however, newer films like Ant-Man and the Wasp and Avengers: Infinity War will remain on Netflix for 18 months after their initial release on the streaming platform. Thor: Ragnarok, for instance, should theoretically hit Disney+ shortly after the movie leaves Netflix on or around December 6, 2019.
‘Star Wars: The Last Jedi’ (2018)

The same rules apply to Star Wars: The Last Jedi, which probably explains why Disney+ won’t have all of the Star Wars movies at launch. The Last Jedi won’t leave Netflix until just before 2020, more than a month after launch.
Starting with Episode IX, every single Star Wars movie — from Rian Johnson’s new trilogy to anything done by the makers of Game of Thrones — will eventually land on Disney+ as the sole place of streaming.
Turner was thought to still have the broadcasting rights to the original six Star Wars films, so it seems like Disney might have made a deal behind the scenes to reacquire them all — or at least a deal that will reclaim them by the end of 2020.

How Will Disney+ Compete With Netflix, Hulu, Amazon, and HBO?
Outside of original content created and owned by specific streaming services, a lot of other shows and movies drift between the various streaming platforms as licenses expire and are purchased. But that won’t be the case with Disney+. Their grand plan is to take ownership over the many properties Disney has created over the years.
Which is to say that once Disney finally reacquires all of its shows and movies, they’ll never leave Disney+. And as the company creates more and more blockbusters in huge franchises like Star Wars and Marvel, the value of Disney+ is only going to gradually increase. Consumers will begin to realize they’ll get more value by going all-in on a streaming service that reliably has the shows and movies they want to see rather than buying Blu-rays or even a cable subscription.
Netflix might’ve changed the way the industry looks at the TV and film industry, but Disney could stand to really shake things up with Disney+.
Disney+ will launch on November 12, 2019.

Full control over Hulu: an estimated $10.5 billion
Following Disney’s acquisition of FOX (FOXA), the Mouse House possessed a controlling stake in Hulu. In order to take full control of the streaming service, Disney bought WarnerMedia’s 9.5% stake for $1.4 billion and reached a “put/call” agreement with NBCUniversal that would see their 33% ownership interest transition to Disney. The deal valued Hulu at $27.5 billion, which would make NBCU’s 33% stake worth roughly $9 billion at the time.
In May, it was reported that Hulu had surpassed 30 million subscribers, up from 22.8 million in December 2018. Disney has created attractive sub-brands for the streamer, such as FX on Hulu, and will begin releasing Searchlight films directly to the platform in the near future. It has also included Hulu’s ad-supported package in its popular bundle offering that includes Disney+ and ESPN+ for $12.99 per month.
