Why Is Earth-42 Important?
At this point, it is clear that Earth-42 will be very important in the future of the Spider-Verse movies because Miles is currently trapped there. We know that Gwen Stacy formed a task force that would rescue Miles from that universe. And that means that it is likely that they are going to find the Earth-1610 version of Miles clashing with his Earth-42 version.
Of course, the fact that Earth-42 exists allows us to see what kind of a person Miles would have become if he had lost his dad and if there was no Spider-Man that people could rely on to help them. We get to see two sides to the same coin here because this version of Miles in Earth-42 became a victim of the circumstances and the environment he was living in. And meeting him is likely going to give Earth-1610 Miles a different perspective on life.
There’s also a good chance that Earth-42 Miles would eventually start to see things from his Earth-1610 counterpart’s point of view, especially because he brought up his father’s death, which changed his life for the worse. That’s why we’re not dismissing the possibility of this version of Miles leaving the life of crime to become a hero in his own unique way, especially when he knows that his Earth-1610 version has a chance to save his father from death.
Who is Hobie Brown?
Hobie Brown can be summed up with one line from Across the Spider-Verse: «I hate the AM, I hate the PM.» He’s an anarchist, spitting in the face of authority and rocking out while he does it.
On Earth-138, Hobie Brown is the radioactive suicide machine known as Spider-Man, more commonly known as Spider-Punk. In the comics, he’s an American rebel fighting against the totalitarian regime of President Norman Osborn, but in the film, Hobie is a proper Brit instead.

This change can be linked to the comics, as his design was originally intended for Spider-UK. Additionally, unmasked Hobie appears to be a few years older than his comic counterpart or is, at the very least, far more mature.
Web Warriors (2015) — Issue #7
Hobie does give Miles (and the audience) the traditional rundown of his backstory, which matches closely to the comics. He » shows» and » fascists,» along with «staging armed permitted political action/performing art pieces!»
He also mentioned how he was «briefly» a runway model (in costume), something that comic book Hobie never was, but his attitude and beliefs certainly made him stand out among the other Spider-People.

Captain Spider
One idea used several times in What If…? was, “What if Flash Thompson was bitten by the radioactive spider?” It never ended well. One time he became a corrupt Spider-Man. One time he became a bully of a vigilante and accidentally killed Peter in a fit of anger. The first time, though, he did try to be a real deal superhero. As Captain Spider, Flash was mostly focused on his agility and pure strength. All that brawn amounted to little when the Vulture dropped him from a great height. Flash never even thought about developing web shooters, so he was doomed. Peter (a major Captain Spider fan) found his body, mourned Flash, and was able to recreate the accident to give himself spider powers.
Superior Spider-Man
In an interesting change in the status quo, a dying Doctor Octopus was able to switch minds with Peter Parker. Octavius decided that he would be a hero like Peter, but he would do so by his own rules. At best, he was an asshole. At worst, he was no better than the villains he brutalized.
In his darkest hour, this Spider-Man realized that he could not foil the Green Goblin’s plans. Accepting his inferiority, he allowed Peter to retake the wheel. Since then, the concept has been revisited in various ways, as Octavius still had interest in using his mad science for the good of the world…whether the world wanted it or not.
It’s worth noting that Superior Spider-Man’s costume is an unused design from the first Spider-Man movie.
Will Hobie Brown Appear in the MCU?
Sony Pictures producer Amy Pascal revealed that there are plans to bring Miles Morales into live-action. Still, whether it means it will be the same Miles from the Spider-Verse trilogy, a new introduction in the MCU, or his own franchise in Sony’s Spider-Man Universe is anyone’s guess. But would Spider-Punk have a chance to appear in the MCU?
The only logical spots for him to show up in a Marvel Studios production would be either Kang Dynasty or Secret Wars, which will no doubt be full of Multiversal cameos. However, Marvel Studios President Kevin Feige and Sony worked together to align their ideas of the Multiverse and the use of MCU references.
So, there’s a small chance that Spider-Punk could at least make a live-action cameo in the Multiversal event films.

Well, imagine if Spider-Man dealt with those things while wearing a terrible costume and even worse versions of Venom and Carnage. This show did NOT get five seasons, just so you know.
Will Hobie Brown Appear in Beyond the Spider-Verse?
The ending of Across the Spider-Verse has Gwen Stacy gathering her own Spider-Band to save Miles, which includes: Peter B. Parker & Mayday Parker, Spider-Man Noir, Peni Parker, Spider-Ham, Pavitr Prabhakar, Spider-Byte, and, of course, Hobie Brown. So, there’s already no doubt he’ll appear in Spider-Man: Beyond the Spider-Verse.

The real question is, what will his involvement be in the story of the threequel? In the film, Miles is initially jealous of Hobie and his vague relationship with Gwen. However, it’s quickly shown that he supports Miles and his rebellious attitude toward the Spider-Society, even backing him up during his intervention.

But most importantly, when Miguel imprisoned Miles, Hobie reminded Miles how he could escape the cage using his palms and venom strike. So, ironically, despite Miles’ initial jealousy of Spider-Punk, he might be the only one he’ll truly trust in Gwen’s Spider-Band.

Едва ли это будет спойлером, мне сильно запомнился диалог отца Майлза с самим Майлзом в костюме Паука. Именно с точки зрения эстетики. Это, хоть и интересный, но частый в данной франшизе сюжетный приём, и освежить его можно было только двумя вещами: новой темой для разговора и подачей.
С этим приёмом мы впервые видим тонкий диалог двух хрупких душ отца и сына, эффект которого дополняется мастерской композицией и невероятно сбалансированным между анимацией и иллюстрацией артом.
Spider-Punk
Before his star-making role in this movie, Hobie Brown was introduced in the Spider-Verse comic event before getting the spotlight in a couple short stories and finally his own miniseries. While the movie made it look like the Kingpin was the big evil authority figure in his world, the comic used Norman Osborn as a Reagan stand-in. Hobie used his powers, fighting skills, and musical talents to fight off Osborn’s symbiote army, and continued to take on his world’s own take on the villains, such as a yuppy Kang the Conqueror and a Taskmaster looking like he’s out of the Misfits.
Interestingly, Spider-Punk is not based on a version of Peter Parker or Miles Morales, but the Marvel 616 version of the Prowler. Maybe he and Miles are more similar than they realize.
Why Is Earth-42 So Bad?
As mentioned, Uncle Aaron was still alive on Earth-42. When Miles got to the rooftop, he saw a mural of his father, as it was clear that his dad was the one that died in that universe instead of Aaron Davis. And the worst part was that Miles realized that his version in that universe had turned to a life of crime and became the Prowler.
So, Earth-42 is so bad because the radioactive spider that was supposed to turn a local of that universe into Spider-Man ended up in Earth-1610 due to the collider accident. As such, there is no Spider-Man in Earth-42, as history changed and turned that universe into a dark and bleak one because no superhero could have helped the people of New York.
As such, the Earth-42 version of Miles became the Prowler because there was no Spider-Man to protect him or his family. It is even possible that he was supposed to be the Spider-Man of that universe. And because he didn’t have a superhero to idolize and a father that could help raise him, Earth-42 Miles turned to a life of crime so that he and his family could live well enough.
What Is Earth-42?
While ‘Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse’ focused more on Miles Morales’ own universe and how different variants of Spider-People got stranded there due to a collider accident, the events of ‘Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse’ take things to an entirely different level when multiversal travel was introduced. Of course, the team of Spider-People that Miguel O’Hara’s Spider-Man 2099 was responsible for creating this team, which doesn’t even include the main character, Miles, who is from Earth-1610.
Nevertheless, because Miles tried to help Gwen Stacy in the problem involving the Spot, who discovered that he could also travel between universes, he ended up getting on the wrong side of Miguel’s temper. O’Hara invited Miles to Nueva York in Earth-928, the universe where the Spidey Task Force HQ was located. And when Miles got there, Miguel introduced the concept of Canon Events, which were events that every Spider-Person needed to go through to avoid the implosion of their own universe.
But Miles didn’t want to see his dad dying even though this was supposed to be a Canon Event, and that was why he decided to escape Nueva York in the hopes of returning to his own universe and stopping the Spot from killing his dad. And while Miles had to go through countless Spider-People, he got to the room where a spider-like machine that transported people to their own universes was located.
The machine worked by scanning a person’s biology and using that as a reference for the universe where that person was located. As such, the person is sent to the universe corresponding to their biological makeup.
However, when Miles returned home, he realized he needed to confess to his mother, Rio Morales, about being Spider-Man. Unfortunately, Rio didn’t know who Spider-Man was as she was confused about what Miles had just said. This wasn’t very surprising to some people because it is possible that a mother who focuses on her job isn’t too familiar with what’s happening worldwide.
But when Miles saw that his Uncle Aaron was alive, he immediately discovered that this wasn’t his own universe. Instead, the machine sent him to Earth-42, a mirror universe of his own Earth-1610.
The reason why Miles was sent there by the machine can be traced back to his superhero origins. When the Spot told Miles how he became what he is, he said he once worked for Alchemax and was experimenting on radioactive spiders until the collider exploded and turned him into the Spot. Meanwhile, this spider was the very same one that bit Miles and gave him his powers.
But Miguel, out of anger, told Miles that he was an anomaly because he was never meant to be Spider-Man. That’s because the spider that bit him came from Earth-42, which found its way to Earth-1610 due to the collision that opened up portals from different universes. As such, when the machine that sent Miles to Earth-42 scanned him, it recognized his biology as one that belonged to that universe.
Earth-42 is not so different from Earth-1610, except that this universe had events that transpired differently than Miles’ own universe. And the biggest surprise came from the true Earth-42 Miles Morales.

Earth X Spider-Man
While there is a Spider-Cop out in the Spider-Verse comics, the guy directing traffic in the movie seems to be more based on the Peter Parker of Earth-X. This alternate reality took place in a dystopian future that tried to connect as much of Marvel as possible, explaining that everything that wasn’t magic, alien, or robot was caused by the mutant gene. Spider-Man, Hulk, and Daredevil? Mutants whose powers kicked in via scientific accidents. Inhumans? Mutants who awakened their powers differently. Asgardians? Mutants from space who had evolved to be limitlessly powerful, but installed with genetic failsafes where they were molded by the beliefs of others. It’s complicated.
Peter Parker was really mopey in this reality because MJ was dead and their daughter fought crime while bonded to the Venom symbiote. He ended up taking Luke Cage’s offer to become a police officer, which also helped mend his relationship with his daughter.
What Powers Does Spider-Punk Have?
In the comics, Spider-Punk has all the same powers as the original Spider-Man, including his own web shooters. The same appears to be the case in Across the Spider-Verse, but one thing sets him apart from the rest of the Spider-People is his guitar.
Sony
In the comics and the film, Hobie uses his guitar to create ear-piercing sound waves, which help him break through the energy barrier at Pavitr’s Alchemax. Of course, the biggest use of his guitar in the comics was defeating President Osborn and his army of Symbiote-infused riot police.
Spider-Verse (2014) — Issue #2
After he used soundwaves to weaken the Symbiotes and Osborn, seeing his opening, Hobie slammed his guitar onto Osborn’s neck and cleaved his head off. It’s unlikely Sony will allow Hobie to go that far in the threequel, but fans will surely see more use of his guitar to fight both Spot and Miguel’s Spider-Society.
Spider-Man India
Back in the mid-2000s, Marvel collaborated with Gotham Entertainment to do Spider-Man: India, a miniseries about recreating Spider-Man, but in India. Unlike the confidently studly movie version, the comic take on Pavitr Prabhakar is more of a shy loser like Peter Parker. Really, outside of the source of his powers and cultural stuff, they did little to differentiate him from the Peter Parker. Change his guardians to Uncle Bhim and Aunt Maya, change his love interest to Meera Jain, etc.
As for the powers, Pavitr’s are more mystical than science fiction. This lends itself to the Venom symbiote, which is some kind of fluid demon creature in this reality.
